Food Shift, a California non-profit organization involved in recovering, redistributing, and processing extra food, donates edible surplus food from large events. Food Shift teamed up with a local non-profit educational organization and a food recovery organization in order to recover food from the three-day Bioneers conference in October 2014. Together, the three organizations gathered and packaged high-quality, uneaten food from the conference and delivered it to several food service organizations in the area. Through collaboration and planning, they were able to collect and donate 281 pounds of extra food to food insecure communities
